APK version API: current version, minimum Android and release notes
Which version fields Google Play exposes, how reliable they are, and how to read them through an API.
The fields
version: the version name shown on the listing, such as 8.4.1. For apps with several device-specific builds it reads "Varies with device".android_min: the lowest Android version the current release installs on.updated: when the current version was published.released: when the app first appeared.recent_changes: the release notes of the current version.
One app
curl -H "X-API-Key: $API_KEY" \ "https://apkapi.net/api/v1/app?id=org.telegram.messenger"
Many apps at once
/apps takes up to 100 package names per call (one credit each):
/api/v1/apps?ids=com.whatsapp,org.telegram.messenger,com.discord
What it is good for
- Compatibility checks: which of your partner apps still support Android 7?
- Release cadence: how often a competitor ships.
- Device fleets: whether the apps your company relies on dropped an old Android version.
No APK files are involved: everything comes from the public listing.
